HOW TO ELIMINATE CANNABIS ODOR

HOW TO ELIMINATE CANNABIS ODOR

To minimize cannabis odor, try these tips: use airtight containers, employ air purifiers, utilize odor-neutralizing sprays, or consider vaping instead of smoking.

If you enjoy cannabis, you know that a potent odor is often just a part of the ride. Although the smell of cannabis is part of what makes it special, there are many reasons why you may not want to reek of your latest purchase from JARS. Whether you have a nosy neighbor or you simply want your home to smell fresh, we’re here with our guide on how to eliminate cannabis odor. Read on for our list of best-kept tips, tricks, and products to help you with your smelly dilemma.

1. Consume in a well-ventilated area.

Unfortunately, there is no way to completely eradicate the odor that comes from cannabis, especially if you’re smoking – that’s why it’s important to focus on prevention rather than solely relying on masking the smell.

Next time you spark up, make sure to open a few windows or even step outside to take care of business. If it’s a cold day, just crack your windows while you’re smoking, and try to aim the fumes directly outside, before shutting them again. You may even consider turning on a fan just to keep air circulating around the room.

2. Use the power of your kitchen.

An untraditional but effective way to deal with the smell of cannabis is to head into your kitchen. Cooking odors can be powerful and long-lasting, so they’re an excellent solution to unwanted smells.

If you have some onions, garlic, or both on hand, slice them up, and try sauteeing them in some oil. The intoxicating smell will fill up your home and mask any additional odors in no time. Bonus points if you can use these ingredients to make something to cure your munchies.

You can also try popping some popcorn, either on the stove or in the microwave—but you won’t be able to eat it so don’t get too excited. In order for this method to work its best, you will need to burn the popcorn. We know it might sound crazy but have you ever lit a match after in the bathroom to cover up some potentially embarrassing odors? This is the same idea but on a larger scale. One simple strike of a match is likely not enough to handle the smell of cannabis smoke.

3. Try an air freshener.

Perhaps one of the most common ways to handle undesirable aromas is to grab an everyday air freshener. For a quick fix, a simple spray from the grocery store will temporarily do the trick. To go the extra mile, some brands (like Veil) have crafted room sprays specifically for cannabis. You can also invest in a wall plug-in that runs continuously so you never have to worry about spritzing the room every time you consume.

4. Stock up on essential oils.

Mask the scent of cannabis and get the added bonus of aromatherapy by using essential oils. Turn your home into a spa by placing a few drops of the oil of your choice into a diffuser. Similar to a humidifier, the scent will spread throughout the space using this winning combination.

For a relaxing environment, try a blend of lavender and clary sage oils. Lavender has been shown to help reduce stress and clary sage may help cleanse your space. For an energizing vibe, opt for a blend of lemon and basil. This duo can potentially lift your spirits and help to enhance your mood. Whatever mixture you choose, your home will feel and smell like a high-end spa.

5. Light some incense and candles.

Set the mood while disguising unwanted odors by lighting incense or candles. They’re a classic solution to fill a home with alluring aromas and are easy to find at every price point. With a variety of scents and styles to choose from, you can select whatever fits your mood or vibe the best. Incense and candles also make a great gift if you want to make someone in your smoke circle feel extra special.

6. Exhale into a sploof.

What might just sound like a funny word is actually a very handy tool for the odor-conscious consumer. Essentially, a sploof is a hollow tube that is filled with some kind of filtration system to help eliminate the smell of cannabis. To use it, you exhale into the mouthpiece side and the filtered smoke comes out through the other side.

You can easily make one yourself at home with an empty toilet paper roll, dryer sheets, and a rubber band or purchase one. Either way, it’s a great device to have on hand if you want to easily deal with cannabis aromas.

Conclusion

Although there is no way to completely eliminate cannabis odor, we hope this guide has helped you determine how to handle them with ease. For more tips and tricks, follow @JARS_life on social media, and make sure to stay tuned for more on the blog.

HOW TO SPOT HIGH-QUALITY CANNABIS

HOW TO SPOT HIGH-QUALITY CANNABIS

Identify high-quality cannabis by examining its appearance, aroma, trichome density, moisture content, and proper curing. Seek vibrant colors, a strong, pleasant aroma, and a balanced moisture level for the best experience.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a brand new patient or connoisseur, buying cannabis can just be plain old intimidating. When you walk into a cannabis retailer, you’re greeted with a million different options, all with different branding, varying strain names, and a wide range of prices. So how do you know which buds are the best and which ones to skip? To get to the bottom of this conundrum, we have to look at the factors that make high-quality cannabis — and you might be surprised at what you discover.

It’s not all about the THC.

Perhaps one of the biggest misconceptions about what makes cannabis good is having a high THC percentage — shocking, we know. But the best cannabis is marked by an intricate arrangement of cannabinoids and terpenes, not just THC. This complex arrangement of compounds is said to produce dynamic, well-rounded effects that result in an overall more pleasant high. This phenomenon is often referred to as the entourage effect.

If buds are solely rich in THC and lacking in other terpenes and cannabinoids, it could produce a smoking experience that is one-dimensional, short-lived, and perhaps even anxiety-inducing. Unfortunately, very few of these compounds, like CBD, CBN, and CBG, are advertised on the label, making it difficult to determine if the cannabis product you’re buying is actually worth the extra cash.

Lucky for you, there are a number of other ways to determine if the cannabis is of high quality besides the internal chemistry.

So how do you tell if cannabis buds are quality?

Typically, we’d tell you your nose knows best. Terpenes like limonene and pinene not only impact the high but also how the nugs smell. Each bud should have a really pungent and noticeable odor that can range from sweet and citrusy to earthy and sour — but if you smell hay or mold, beware. That said, we know that it is not always possible to sniff your green before you buy it, so let’s talk about some other factors.

The look of the buds can also help decipher quality flower from not-so-quality flower. For example, if your buds are coated in sparkly, sugar-like trichomes, you’ve probably got some potent cannabis in hand. You may also see some orange hairs poking around, which can also signal good cannabis. Quality buds can also range in color from vibrant green to deep, almost black, purple hues. So if your weed is colorful and sparkly or vibrant and hairy, you’ve likely discovered some high-quality cannabis.

Additionally, the freshness of your cannabis can say a lot about the quality without having to touch, see, or smell what’s inside the package. In many states, it is required that the testing labels reveal when the buds were harvested and when they were packaged. Both of these details are important as over time, cannabis begins to lose its potency. However, it also needs to be dried and cured for an appropriate amount of time before ending up in your hands — usually, a couple of months does the trick.

Another element to consider is the packaging. Many brands decide to package their goods in mylar bags, which can cause the nugs to get crushed or jostled easily. When this happens, the precious trichomes that contain most of the cannabinoids could fall off. Whereas, cannabis packaged in jars reduces this risk. The jar acts like a forcefield surrounding the goodies inside.

You’re the boss.

Ultimately what makes weed good to you is entirely subjective. So don’t be afraid to embrace it if you prefer a bargain brand over the top-shelf brand, that is perfectly fine! Think of it like shopping for wine — sure, the $80 bottle is probably the bee's knees to discerning palates, but at the end of the day, it’s all just grapes. So no matter what your budget or your taste, JARS has got what you need to make you smile.

WHY DOES CANNABIS SMELL SKUNKY?

WHY DOES CANNABIS SMELL SKUNKY?

Cannabis smells skunky due to terpenes, specifically myrcene and pinene. These compounds create the distinct aroma, influenced by the strain's genetics and growing conditions. The smell is often compared to a skunk due to similar compounds found in both.

There’s no denying it, some cannabis buds smell like they’ve been freshly sprayed by a scared skunk. In fact, many aficionados want their nugs to smell skunky because a pungent aroma is often a sign of quality. Although each strain has its unique aroma that comes from a blend of chemical compounds like terpenes, we now know that other molecules may affect our olfactory experience as well.

Scientists wanted to pinpoint exactly where this signature sour scent comes from — and they’ve finally figured it out. Keep reading to uncover why cannabis smells skunky and where every bud gets its one-of-a-kind aroma.

What are terpenes?

If you’ve ever used a diffuser and filled it with essential oils to relax or get focused for the day, you’re already familiar with terpenes. They have been used for their aromatherapeutic properties for centuries.

Commonly found in plants and fruit, terpenes are aromatic compounds that were originally designed to ward off pests — little did they know, that they’d eventually be luring us in. These tiny molecules can also be found in lavender flowers, orange rinds, hops, cracked black pepper, and of course, cannabis. That’s why different strains will often smell like berries, citrus, pine trees, diesel, and all that pungent stuff that we can’t get enough of.

In addition to making flower at JARS smell really, really good, many believe that terpenes may also impact the overall effects of your favorite strain. For instance, the citrus-forward terpene known as limonene (which can also be found in citrus fruits like lemons and oranges), is said to have an energizing effect as it elevates your mood. Hence, many sativa-dominant strains like Lemon Pound Cake and Jet Fuel can offer a mood-boosting high.

Although there are countless different types of terpenes, it does not appear that they alone are responsible for giving cannabis its skunky aroma.

Why does cannabis smell like skunk?

After studying over a dozen different strains, a new analysis resulted in the identification of a group of sulfur compounds that are responsible for cannabis' skunklike scent. They also discovered that there didn’t have to be a great deal of these molecules in the flower to pack a punch — even a small concentration made a big difference in the overall aroma. The most dominant of the compounds discovered was a molecule called prenylthiol, or 3-methyl-2-butene-1-thiol if you’re feeling fancy. These are the same stinky compounds that give “skunked beer” its notorious flavor

These sulfurous compounds have been found to occur in other natural substances as well, but this is the first time that they have been discovered in cannabis. Hooray, science! We can finally put this sensory mystery to rest.

WHAT ARE SUN ROCKS?

WHAT ARE SUN ROCKS?

Sun Rocks are a potent cannabis product made by combining high-THC flower buds, oil, and kief. The bud is dipped in cannabis oil and then rolled in kief, resulting in a highly concentrated and potent form of cannabis. Sun Rocks deliver a powerful and long-lasting high due to their elevated THC content.

If getting astronomically lit is one of your goals when consuming cannabis, sun rocks may be your one-way ticket to bliss. One puff of these distillate-dipped nugs and you’ll be sky-high in a matter of moments.

Much like their ever-popular counterparts, moon rocks, these potent buds are becoming a staple in nearly every cannabis retailer. However, there are some key differences between the two, despite their interstellar connection. In this article, we’ll break down everything you need to know about sun rocks and how they’re different from their moon rock cousins.

What are moon rocks?

Before we can get into all of the juicy details about sun rocks, let’s start with their predecessor, moon rocks.

First introduced to cannabis culture in the early 1990s by legendary West-Coast rapper Kurupt, moon rocks have steadily grown in popularity over the last few years for their ability to take cannabis consumers straight into the stratosphere. Today, these nugs come in a variety of different shapes and sizes but the process remains the same. First, dried buds (traditionally Girl Scout Cookies, but any cannabis strain works) are sprayed or dipped into hash oil from any given strain and then coated in kief. The result is a sparkly hash-covered nug of cannabis that resembles a galactic rock.

Although moon rocks typically test somewhere between 50-60% THC, the overall quality of each bud can vary greatly. One potential downside of moon rocks is that their coating of concentrate and kief makes it nearly impossible to tell if high-quality flower is being used. Sun rocks have sought to eliminate this by using a different method —  so let’s take a closer look sun rocks.

What are sun rocks? And how are they different from moon rocks?

Sun rocks take the things we know and love about moon rocks — potent effects, high THC percentage, and a blend of cannabis extracts — and take things to a whole new level.

To the naked eye, they don’t look that different from moon rocks. However, moon rocks are made up of cannabis, hash oil, and kief from any strain and of any quality, so it’s kind of like a grab bag of cannabis goodies. You’re not quite sure what’s underneath that sparkly coating of kief.

Sun rocks, on the other hand, feature top-shelf cannabis flower, terpene-rich extracts, and powerful kief that are all derived from the same strain — so there’s no guesswork involved. While manufacturers can choose any strain they like, crowd-pleasing OG Kush is typically the strain you’ll find as sun rocks.

Unlike the thick, opaque hash oil used in moon rocks, sun rocks switch out low-quality hash oil — often made from leftover trim and shake — for a top-shelf concentrate extracted from nugs of the same strain. Thus, the result is a trichome-rich product, packed with more flavor in each hit than your average hash oil. Additionally, the purity of the oil makes the extract clearer, which allows you to see the quality of the buds underneath, even through the layer of kief.

Although these upgrades do improve the taste, they also give sun rocks a higher potency, and therefore, more intense psychoactive effects. Typically, you can expect moon rock to reach up to about 60% THC, but sun rocks can easily test over 80% THC. In other words, you’ll be whizzing past the moon and cruising straight for the sun in just a few puffs.

Ready to go to space?

Whether you want to try moon rocks, sun rocks, or anything in between stop into JARS today and we’ll be able to take care of all of your cannabis needs — space suit not included.
